| Well, I work all day and get home, guess what, a project that started a year ago to bring city water to my town, had finally got to town... They are the worst organized project ever seen by man kind.... Lights at each end of town, small town, huge trencher, a FEL, a bobcat with street sweeper, a few track hoes, and it rained today.... The lights stay red for 5 minutes, traffic in town trying to get out with one lane blocked off, can't figure out which one exactly... When the lights are green both directions are going at the same time... in the same lane... It is rediculous, but what state, county, or township work crew isn't rediculous... I did turn some heads though, I guess a lot of people have never seen a garage door opening in the side of a house, or even a tractor start up and back out of the openning... forget that it's a Springfield... I just backed it out and around back to hook up the 4 wheel garden cart, had to unload the cart before I could take it to the driveway to retrieve the Maytag wringer washer that had been sitting there for 4 days. Now I have the washer on the front porch of the tractor house, I was still getting looks. Can't tell if that's good or bad. | |

| Do you have a choice whether to go to town water or stay on your well? | |

| Poncho, we do have a choice, but last couple years our well has gotten a little dryer. Dad is going to pay for two water taps/road bores (its on the other side of the road). He is going to have one for the house we live in and the other for my tractor house, his shop, and Mom's garden. I like that joke though, winter and construction. | |

| The reason I asked, is that a friend of mine has town water, but they s=till use their septic system for sewage......In this area, people with town water also have a surcharge for sewage, whether they use the town sewage system or not.....so basically, he is paying for sewage that he does not use........Government in action.
I am lucky...I have 2 wells, a dug well and a drilled well, which I use.......the dug well has water about 10 feet down....I use it to fill the pool as the water has much less iron content in it, being closer to the surface.

| I was set up that way at my old house I had city water but my own septic tank, the town could do nothing about it either. The catch was tho if the septic tank ever failed I couldn't put in a new one I'd have to hook up to city sewage. The septic system was getting bad enough I had to pump it out twice a year but still way much cheaper than paying the monthly sewer bill about $90 a year.My kids live there now so far still doing the same thing,I lived there 25 years. | No sewage line coming through, even though it would have been 10 times more popular than city water. We are going to hook up to the city water though, might try to split up our house plumbing a little, so we can still use our well for drinking water and such. Kinda just use the city water as a crutch to keep the well from drying up. At least that is what I suggested to Dad, he is thinking about it, but our house has plumbing that would need changing around a bit. | |

| Like I said, we have 2 wells....The deep drilled well has a lot of iron, which we have an iron filter for....It doesn't take it all out.....Our drinking water is filtered by reverse osmosis system. Last year I filled the pool with the water through the iron filter, it still came out a brown tinge which means iron....you have to use a special chemical to get it to settle and then vacuum it out. This year, I bought a little pump and filled the pool from the old well.....no iron. I may just get a jet pump for the old well and start using it in the house too........get it tested of course first. | |

| We don't have much iron content in our well, we don't have a filter device like you have Poncho.
Today however, the waterline crew hit a gas line so that required another crew to fix today. That was about 40 feet from the tractor house, so they are that far, tomorrow they should be in front of our house, they already dropped the pipe in our front yard, the waterline goes across the road.
