| if you cant find another blade you should be able to take a bigger one and cut it down to size. Also dont underestimate what you can do with those RER. Just ask that Nate character | |

| 8 hp B&S.......I put gas and oil in it, checked the plug, spun her over a bit, put the plug back in and she started right up........surges a bit, probably junk in the carb. ....Theres a small engine guy up the road with lots of junk....maybe he will have something I can use to fix the deck....the bearings are there, but not much else.
The book says it weighs 340 lbs

| Thanks....I messed with the high speed screw and it didn't make any difference..........When I turned the idle down, it did stop, but when you speed it up it comes back.....Will pop the air cleaner off today........It was pretty dirty too, may opt for a new element. | |

| Sorry...cant do it, my daughter really needs something......
Chased over hecks half acre this morning looking for parts....The place I know of with a bunch of used crap, guy was not there, so I went to my usual parts guy...Says that Bolens sold to MTD and the Bolens line was scrapped........he sent me even further up the road to some little hick town. Seems he used to be a Bolens dealer, before MTD bought them out and started putting the Bolens name on their crap. Anyways, he isn't there either, on vacation I guess, as there was a note that he would be back next week.....will try again first, managed to get a phone number and will call first.........wasted about $20 worth of gas......but its raining today again, so not much else to do.

Messed with the screws, but still surged.......Took it apart and cleaned, blew it all out....still did it. There is a little screw that goes into the housing on top...It doesn't have a needle on the end, but has a little hole in the bottom. I turned it out 1/4 turn and that cured it. Only thing is, the screw, not being bottomed out is loose now and turns real easy. I put a drop of Locktite on the threads and put it back in..........This isn't the hi speed screw you were talking about, was it?

| hate to tell you but that Bolens you got is an MTD (as you called it piece of crap)
I on the other hand happen to be a big fan of MTD, at least the older and heavy duty stuff.
As far as something to just mow with its hard to beat the price of cheap little MTDs, look at what you paid for yours nothing, thats the best thing about the newer MTDs, but I would never waste the money on a brand new one.

. Are you sure?.......The manual that I got with it, just says Bolens on it, there is no date on it either.......The small engine guy I deal with says its an older Bolens and thats why he cant get parts.....From what I know, MTD bought Bolens in 2001 and I figure its older than that. I also plugged a couple of the parts numbers in on the MTD parts site.....got nothing. Anyways,....I will keep plugging away, looking for parts....may have to adapt something.

| Located a sheave assembly... I don't know if you were looking local or are ok with ordering and having it shipped... Haralds Small Engine 5214 Jasmine Rd Billings, MO 65610 www.haraldsonline.commowergal@mowisp.net417-743-2491 On their website you can search inventory by spreadsheet or pdf which will show two hits on the 1751494 part number... of course you can just call, too... not sure why but one says sheave assembly, the other says pulley, so might want to check with them. I just ordered a part from them and shipping was $4... very reasonable. Hope this helps! J ps - oh yeah, the part is categorized under "troybilt bolens" not "mtd" so would have to agree with you on the mfr | |

| Thanks J.....will keep it in mind, if my local guy doesn't pan out.....
according to the diagram, the sheave is the pulley.........Now, I am not sure what they mean by assembly....maybe just the nut etc to fasten it, or maybe the whole pulley, shaft and other hardware....would have to call.

However, I dont think yours looks that old. Im not ripping on yours or MTD, I hope you did not take it that way. When I defend newer MTDs its just because you can buy them dirt cheap or free whenever you need one, however you have to be willing to work on them.

| LOL...no offense taken Ohmar.......Was just going on what my parts guy was telling me, that MTD was buying up all these companies just to slap the name on their stuff.........I figure that if they can buy the companies, instead of them buying MTD, they must be doing something right.
BTW...Toro owned Bolens for a while.......
Went out and picked up a 38" deck for it today.....going to adapt it the the Bolens.......Will take some pics as I get things together........

| MTD riding mowers have always given us fits, at least ours, but some are as reliable as the sun. The MTD we have has been abused by us for the last decade. As much as I despise it for letting us down occasionally when we've needed it, I have to admit, it does get the mowing down once it's running.
I think the thing MTD is doing right is buying up the different brands to stick those names on their mowers. If you think about it, us tractor guys are very brand specific when we buy our tractors, new or used. For instance, I bought a Case 222 recently because it had my name on it, even though they were made by Ingersoll. Someone that buys only Cub Cadet is now buying an MTD in disguise, when before they wouldn't have even touched an MTD with a 10 foot pole. MTD is buying the riding mower market rather methodicly, they hit the lesser brands first to get more market share, now they are buying brands like Cub Cadet. It is truely only a matter of time before they get a hold of the John Deere riding mower line. Now that companies are having to reevaluate their markets there will be more companies droping entire product lines completely, if not selling them off to other companies.
I know I may have a couple incorrect facts, but for the most part it should be fairly accurate. I am not trying to bash any brands, I am just stating my observations.

I would say you are right because all of the parts that I have found that look like they may fit yours (none that you need of course) are also fit the toro models like it.

I agree Casey, I will never say the newer MTDs are built as good as others, there biggest selling point to me is the price you can get them for. I dont really think any of the new ones are built the way they used to be, maybe Ingersoll. I think most of us would agree on that one.

| Ya, I believe that Ingersoll is the last real garden tractor being produced in the modern market. | |
