The serial tags are always intact it seems, what surprises me is when they are still bolted on the tractor. lol!

That tractor is nice, I don't have a 1962 Springfield in my collection, I do have the rest from 1961-1967, minus a 62 and 65. I have two 66s, might call one a 65 soon. lol!

I will get you a manual copied up and sent to you in the next couple weeks. Until then, just ask and I will find the answer. Very Happy

I will definitely appreciate the manual, I cant figure for the life of me how the drive belt is gonna come from the engine without hitting any obstructions with a twist.

Brendan, the drive belt goes around the footrest shaft and has a twist in it, a belt tensioner underneath keeps it off the mower mandrel (dead center of chassis).

Correct, the foot rest rod is bolted together with a coupling in the middle, seperate it and drop the clutch pulley in front of the tranny, install belt, reinstall the parts, and good to go. You are not missing the tensioner, I see it in the pictures, you just need the spring. I cant remember which way the belt twists off hand, but you aren't ready to install it yet. I will take a pic underneath my Springfield soon. By the way, the manual says to tip the tractor up on one side to service underneath. Not sure which side, I just go with most convenient at the moment, provided I can lift it. lol!

The tensioner in the pic is for the deck, I do see a bar sticking past the tensioner that looks like a pulley should be on it though....

Ok, now I see that, Had to open the picture. lol!

You are right, the stick is for a tensioner. It doesn't really need the tensioner, I had one running and driving and the belt just rubbed the mower mandrel, but the mower belt is off so it didnt really matter. If you hang on a couple days to a week or two I may have an extra tensioner bracket, whether it be off the springfield parts tractor i am redoing differently or with a decent sized lot of NOS springfield parts and pieces I am in the process of purchasing.

Well I got the most Springfields / Toros right now, and no one will be able to top my group of em. By spring I plan to have at least 5, if not all 6 going and in a picture. One is a Gilson, but it has a lot of similarity, and seems logical, they took over Montgomery Wards' tractor line just about the time Toro got out, right after buying Springfield.

I actually have some tensioner's and pulleys that would work well. I was messing with the deck tonight, trying to free up the deck spindles. Well, it turned out the belts were so bad the spindles would not turn making me think they were froze up. Once I got the belts off the spindles turn fine, no slop or grinding feeling. It doesn't appear that it was used much at all.

Good deal on the deck. The tensioner does something kinda special (in my opinion) and I can either sketch a diagram of it so you can make one yourself, or send you an extra if I have one.
