Ohioans ticketed for parking in own driveways

TOLEDO, Ohio – Residents of Toledo, Ohio, are complaining that they received $25 tickets for parking their vehicles in their own driveways.

Mayor Carty Finkbeiner (FINK'-by-ner) says he stands by the citations handed out last week by the Division of Streets, Bridges and Harbor. He says the tickets were issued under a city law against parking on unpaved surfaces, including gravel driveways.

During a news conference Monday, Finkbeiner ignored a reporter's question of whether the crackdown and fines were related to the city's budget crisis.

The three-term mayor faces a recall vote in November. Critics have claimed he's wasted city money.

City Councilman D. Michael Collins calls the ticketing "Mickey Mouse nonsense." He has told residents he'll try to have the citations rescinded.

That's stupid.. good thing I live in WV, they wouldn't dare writing that law with all the hunting that goes on around here.

At one point we had a mayor that was going with the tear down delapidated building and clean up the town spree. That year we moved around about 3-5 pieces of delapidated equipment and placed them strategicly and made them look like yard ornaments.

This has got to be one of the most retarded things I have ever heard. I'm sure glad I live in the country where we don't have to put up with ridiculous crap like this.

I like living in the country too, nice to have a little space ya know.

Stupidity , plain and simple .

Funny how so many towns/cities are implementing new ordinances/laws that create revenue . For me locally , they wanted to fine people for having vehicles in their yards that were not registered/inspected/insured. So basically , if you were restoring a car or do as many of us do and swap winter for summer vehicles , you would get tagged with a fine . And it was to be a DAILY fine .

Needless to say , the townfolk didn't take this lightly and told our reps as much . The only way to stop stupity like this is to stay active and on top of those that are working for us .
