Caught this in a local classified add & will be going for a look Sunday.
Might bring it home....I like the odd & unusual.
It's a 74 Sears Electric rideing mower powered by 3 deep cycle marine type batteries....lightning rod optional.
The Peerless trans may be broke...will know more when I see it.
I'm hopeing it's a common type & I can replace it.

I'd like to find either a GE or Wheel Horse Elek Trac....but ones I have found are very expensive or to far gone to save.
But this Sears will satisfy my curiosity in an E mower for now.
If it turns out to be junk I'll have 3 good batteries for the boats.

Stephen,

You know what I told you last night about the Peerless 2300 series trannies if it turns out to be one. Nice machine either way. cheers

I can't wait to see Evan this summer, I should be getting at least half a Motomower (in a trade). If the tranny is missing reverse but all other gears work in the Motomower, it could become the first electric Motomower. lol!

If the tranny is all good then I will restore it with a 7 hp Briggs engine. Either way I plan to use a parts Springfield to make it roll again. lol!

Ken or Buzz...feel free to move this thread to the "projects" section if you want.
I ended up picking up the Sears E rider Sunday morning & delivered a few tractors to Duke's place...KW's 633 Horse & my 704 Horse while up in Niles, MI.
So anyways to get back on track ..I picked up the E rider cheap minus the batteries.
The owner demonstrated everything before we pulled the them & it worked as it should have with the exception of the lack of motion.
Last night I pulled the trans expecting the worse...turned off to be a sheared woodruff key on the input shaft.
A new woodruff key, some duct tape, welding & medical gauze & it's good as new.
My FIL is a plant manager at a commercial van conversion place....I'll head over his way after he's off work & borrow three deep cycle batteries get everything powered up & take it for a spin.
Although I'm already eye balling the transformer on the utility pole in the alley & thinking a long drop cord though...... affraid

Pics to come later tonight.

Request granted, you now have a project. lol!

Good deal on the key, I got my Gilson going again and am sad to report that I have to figure out how to adjust the brakes, it loves to coast when I push in the clutch/brake pedal... lol!

Jst an update on the Sears E rider..
I put three 12V deep cycle batteries in yesterday & have to say I like it.
Other than the blade noise & a noisey idler pulley on the drive belt...it's real quiet.
The neighbor across the alley only mows like twice a year so his grass was still tall enough for me to try the deck...got some funny looks but did very well.
I'll keep this around just incase gas prices go nuts again.
Here's a few pics...my son & I tooled around on it all afternoon to see how long the charge would stay up.

Just curious...any of you Sears experts ever find a rattle can color that matches the Sears yellow for touchups?

Hey now KW...thats kinda personal! affraid

LOL...it slowed down some but I was able to mow the neighbors yard across the aley & mow my front yard.....then the boy & I tooled around on it for a few hours & still had life left in it.
You've seen my big yard though....so it should work out pretty slick for mowing.
Need to do something with the steering though...it's pretty heavy...may try thrust washers under the spindles or lighter batteries. lol!
