Then all the sudden "Murphy" paid a visit.
I noticed this afternoon when I was pulling everything out...one of the wheels on my Horse 18Auto was leaning kind of weird.

So I pulled everything out to get the 18Auto in my itensive care spot of the workshop.
Didn't quite make it & this happened. Sad

The good news is I figured out why the steering was sloppy.
The bad news is I figured out why the steering was sloppy........

Look on the bright side, you have a new project. I am sorry to hear that happened though... At least nothing was damaged except the already damaged parts.

It won't be down long...planning on putting a temp bandaid on it till I can find a D 200 front axle.
The 18Auto/D series used both 3/4" & 1" axle/spindles with a cast iron front axle.
Mine has the wimpy 3/4" versions...well they held for 30+ years.
But I'll dig up the heavier D 200 parts & put the HD front end back under it.

It's amazing how things can screw up just sitting over the winter.....I was pulling stuff out of the shed today, put the battery in the JD and the starter just clicked and smoked.......pulled it off and the brushes are all burnt....I imagine that means $100 plus for a new starter.

Wow...old thread.
Or atleast it seems like it.

To update the thread....
Turned out the 3/4" spindle had broke prior to me buying the 18 Auto & was liveing on borrowed time at that point.
I did manage to get all the parts around for the 1" spindle/axle upgrade & have been working on some of the other high wear items on tne front end.
Currently I'm cleaning up a front rim a little to spray bomb it & mount new tires.
Got one side already painted with a new tire on....putting an 18X9.50X8 tire on an 8" rim sucks by he way.
Hope to have it driveing around again sometime this weekend.
I plan to pull parts little by little for prep & paint...not a restore...just going to make it look easier on the eye's.
Now to find a Tiller & PTO shaft for a Wheel Horse D series.
