need help on 12.5hp briggs throttle linkage (MTD tractor)

I'm fixing up a ride-on mower.


I'm trying hard to figure out how the throttle linkage connects to the governor.

- need to confirm that at full throttle the throttle wire is shorter? (extends for slow)
- from the governor, the link to the carb is at the top and the spring connects in the middle?

Am I missing a piece? Cannot figure out how to draw tension to the right of the governor. The lever appears to pull in the wrong direction.


This is the inside side of the linkage.
The governor is towards the left and needs to be pulled to the left to accelerate.

I just went out and took a pic if the 10 hp B&S I have,......should be the same setup.....It is just a shot of the outside however, so not sure if it will help you at all. Looks to me that you are missing that lever going from that assembly up to the governor rod.

Thanks, but the throttle cable on yours comes in on top. On mine it's from the right.

My question - is there another part?
- the plate with the gizmo that rotates
- spring
- governor arm

Was out today and found a couple examples to compare.

The problem is that the governor arm should be L-shaped. A short horizontal arm is broken or missing.
