I dentifying an old tractor

hi everyone i have AN OLD LAWN TRACOTR THAT I BROKE THE FORKS IN THE TRANSMISSION i was wondering if anybody could help me identify it. Thank and hope you could help me.

You certainly came to the right place. That is a Motomower, and that transaxle is a bad component to have a probelem with, unfortunately, since they are not a common brand. I am not sure if another garden tractor brand's shift forks will fit, or you may be able to get the broken one welded back up, even if you can't find all the pieces, depending on how bad it is. At a minimum you are looking at opening the transaxle and a little bit of looking around. Id try looking at the shift forks in other brands (ie: old wheelhorses, bolens, and similar). Another member, Evan(PA) has opened a Motomower transaxle (it's on loan to me) and he may be of some help to you. I have yet to open my Motomower transaxle, but I do have the open one here, so I may be aboe to answer some questions myself. I am going to move this thread to the "(Need Help) Ask The Moto-Messengers" section so it is better seen. There are some very knowledgable folks here, and they may have even more great solutions.

OK, I must have forgotten to click "leave shadow topic in original section", oh well.. small forum, not many places it can be. I will make a temp thread in there to say it moved.

I opened the transaxle up and thats how i knew that it was the forks. i guess you would know a place to by new ones?

I would be hard pressed to say a lawn mower repair shop since a lot has changed in mowers. I think you would have to look on the internet or take the remaining good shift fork to a machine shop and have a couple new ones made up. My guess is having new ones made might be the easier route than trying to find ones that fit...

i was hoping i would be able to fond used parts from someone on the forum IAm looking at buuying an 124 cucadet but i wanted to get this one fixed

I wouldn't know what to tell you, until I fix my tranny, or Evan's, one of them, I don't know if I will have a shift fork I can give you or not... Hopefully someone has a solution and will chime in, I am not capable of all this solution on my own.

I finally remembered to reply to this thread today. You see, I ran into a similar situation to what you are dealing with. When I got my first Moto-Mower, reverse gear was out of it. I tore into it and couldn't find anything wrong with it. It proceeded to sit there for the next 12 years before I finally got back to fixing it again. I did constant searches on ebay and ended up buying a parts tractor that had a complete transaxle. Later on, I bought a 2nd transaxle and frame...turns out I didn't need that one though. I ended up using the transaxle I got with the parts tractor, painted it, put new axle shaft seals in and replaced the one axle shaft with one from my original transaxle. Gave it a good flush and some fresh fluid and it works pretty good. I ended up selling the remaining parts I had to wvbuzzmaster, as well as loaning him my original transaxle to see if he could get a working transaxle to put in the tractor he was going to build. So I know I'm a little long-winded sometimes, but the point I'm trying to make is that parts aren't easy to come by. But sometimes with a little luck you can find something on ebay that isn't too far away and reasonably priced. I'll let you know if I find anything for you.

I am in the process of buying a motomower transaxle currently for my motomower project. If the deal goes good I might open my stuck tranny and sell you the shift forks out of it. I plan try to use some of the guts out of the stuck tranny to fix Evan's tranny so I can trade him trannys.
